semi-failed attempts to reconstruct one Travis Hallenbeck posted that is now tastefully blurred out thanks to the geniuses who developed Firefox 3 and included a mandatory "zoom" feature that resamples or anti-aliases all html-enlarged content. Internet Explorer is now the go-to way to view such GIFs accurately.

the ones above were screen-captured, making the rotation rate erratic; in the bottom one the "pixels" are divided.

All art made for the Internet is doomed.

Night at the Ex

"Night at the Ex," video by Jacob Stein: [YouTube]

The Stein vid was posted in the comments to Nasty Nets. It's a camera following a girl in battery-operated devil horns as she walks around a fairground with Beck's "Gamma Ray" on the soundtrack. Banal, ordinary but very watchable, lots of depth and multilayered movement. In the clip I made, note all the levels of action going on simultaneously: boys running through funhouse tube, jumping, turning to the right, tube rotating, girl swiveling head, devil horns blinking, carousel lights flashing in the background, guy at back of tube who might be filming (?). De Palma-esque trigonometry on a budget.

psychotronic GIFs - GIFs-only repost

GIF collection from my guest essay "Psychotronic GIFs," for Paddy Johnson's IMG MGMT series of blog posts, which she put up in the summer. As explained in the essay, about half are ones I made (or remixed) and half are ones I found on the Internet and saved. For Johnson's series I "numbered them a1, a2, etc as a gesture to the 'authorless' quality of their web milieu": actual authors can email for credit or a mea culpa.
