Song 8 (Blip)

"Song 8 (Blip)" [2.3 MB .mp3]

Tune done "live" on an Electribe groovebox (the Amkii, not the Rmkii I was using last year)--it's semi-default-y; I wrote the melodies myself but some of the textures (like the scratching, and the ending sputter) are direct from the factory.

This is a straight recording, no compression, effects, or changes to the tracking or balance have been added (hence the hard panning of the right and left channels). Eventually I might tweak it but right now I'm kind of enjoying it raw.

"Trance Sequence Experiment"

"Trance Sequence Experiment" [mp3 removed]

Honestly don't remember doing this. Found it on my hard drive from about two years ago and went--"huh." It's like this recurring dream I have where I find a cache of intriguing (usually expressionist) paintings I don't recall making.

"Force Fed"

"Force Fed" [mp3 removed]

Aggressive, male club type thing with dirty guitar effects, 808 and very digital acid-synth

Update: added a few more "licks" to the third guitar appearance and took out about 10 secs of synth near the end.

"Reggaedrome II"

"Scratch school" photo by Anthony Pidgeon, East Bay Express, via Google Images. I posted this tune about about month ago. It's been work in process for about 2.5 years--I used this same photo on the old blog and it still gets at what I was trying to convey with the piece--students learning to scratch. For "Reggaedrome II" I added a new, self-penned tune at the "climax" and an "eerie sound" near the beginning just to make it a bit more complex. This is also not as loud as version I.

John Pomara Video Remixed

"John Pomara RMX" [15 MB .mp4]

Artist, old friend, and unwitting collaborator John Pomara sent me a low res .mov of a video he's showing in his current solo show. The imagery relates to his current series of paintings and ink jet prints, discussed here. Like a cad (as opposed to a CAD) I did a remix of the video (mostly for length but with a few aesthetic choices, too) and added my own music. Saved it from a .mov to an .avi and back to a .mov so it's muy mushy. This is low rent industrial media art offered with no apologies. Resemblance to anything 8-Bit or Carsten Nicolai-ish is purely intentional (at least on my end).
