One day in a NY area deli:
"One coffee, black, please."
"Black, no sugar?"
"Right--black means no sugar, so, right."
Another day in a NY area deli (a different deli):
"One coffee, black, please."
"Black, no sugar?"
"Right--black, no sugar."
Another day (yet another different deli):
"One coffee, black, please."
"Milk, no sugar?"
"No--black, meaning no milk, no sugar."
"Milk?" (Deli employee starts pouring milk into coffee cup.)
"No, black means... Oh never mind."
"there's no service on the downtown side--you have to come over here." (YouTube via bloggy)

Found a blank prestretched artist's canvas on an upper shelf that had some red wrapping paper on top of it. The paper slightly stained the canvas over time, giving it a "cast." I haven't been painting lately (except with the computer) but got out some old acrylic paints to explore an idea of using that red "cast" as a color. The red is only slightly visible in reproduction--it's subtle, even though the painting isn't terribly subtle.
